call-for-entries: juried print exhibition, may 2015
Duende Art Project is pleased to be a part of a juried exhibition of student printmaking to be held in Houston, Texas in July 2015 during the 5th Annual PrintHouston Festival. We invite interested student print artists to submit their applications for the juried exhibition.
Eligibility: All student printmakers currently enrolled or enrolled within the past 2 years of printmaking program/ class/course/ school. Open to printmaking artists of all ages. Artists under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian includetheir signature for terms of exhibition. All original artwork are eligible. All work should have been completed in the last 5years. All entries are to be no larger than 48x48 inches, including any framework.
The exhibition juror is Suzanne Manns, department head of Works on Paper at the MFAH- Glassell School of Art.
The exhibition is produced by BLUEorange Contemporary and The Duende Art Project.
kate petley at diverseworks fundraiser, may 2015
Duende Art Project artist, Kate Petley, has two little gems of artwork donated from her studio to the annual DiverseWorks fundraiser, Luck of the Draw.
During the Thursday, May 14, 2015 event in Houston, TX, attendees can try their luck at winning original artworks from hundreds of artists from Houston and beyond, made specifically for DiverseWorks! This event is perfect for both the experienced and beginning collector, providing an opportunity to discover new artists and add unique works to your collection. Visit the DiverseWorks website to purchase fundraiser ticket and help support their programs in the Houston art community.
Several works by Kate Petley are also currently available from the Duende website and from May 14 - May 18, patrons can elect to have 25% of their Kate Petley art purchase donated to DiverseWorks in their honor.
Artist talk and ice-cream social event, april 2015
Duende Art Project and BLUEorange Contemporary invite you to an artist talk with Ian Thomas of Pittsburgh, PA and an ice-cream social to celebrate his solo art exhibition, Something Sweet. Join us on Saturday, April 18, 2015 starting at 2:00PM for the free ice-cream social event.
The artist will discuss his latest body of work that uses American cereal pop culture as a vehicle to begin conversations of the tradition of gender inequality that children are subject to learn. Before and after the artist talk will be an ice-cream social while guests explore the exhibition. A representative from Girls Inc. of Houston will be available to offer discussion and opportunities of their organization programs that aide in empowering the girls of our communities.
Part of the art sale proceeds from the event will be donated to support Girls Inc. of Houston.
New sculpture art available, april 2015
We at Duende Art Project are happy to welcome Texas-based sculpture artist, George Schroeder, as a partnering artist. Schroeder's commissioned steel sculptures can be seen in many cities including Houston- TX, San Antonio- TX, Memphis - TN, Jacksonville- FL, and Rekajavik- Iceland.

call-for-entries: juried international art show, april 2015
Duende Art Project has been presented with the opportunity to showcase in the 2016 BUSAN ARTSHOW, an international art fair in Busan, South Korea. Think of Busan as South Korea's LA if Seoul is their NY.
We at Duende Art Project have decided to share this opportunity with the young talent that is emerging out of the Texas art scene. 30 artists from the state of Texas at the age of 30 yrs and below will have their artwork exhibited in June of 2016 in South Korea, along with a catalog to be shared with art collectors and curators alike.
The premiere exhibition of TX30 will be shown in Houston, Texas in September of 2015 at Duende Art Project. Artists will be invited to participate in one of three gallery slideshow events where they may speak about their works to the Houston art community.
Kate petley awarded the franz mayer of munich residency, april 2015
Duende Art Project congratulates one of our partnering artists, Kate Petley, on being awarded a residency this September at the prestigious Franz Mayer of Munich Glass Studio in Germany. This world-renown company began its long history in 1847 and their international projects bring artists’ work to structural projects with incredible results.
Each year, a handful of artists are invited to the Munich studio to create glass and mosaic samples of their work. It is an honor to be selected, as this special opportunity is not available through an application process. Petley's longstanding use of transparent materials makes this residency a great match.
Several mixed media works from her latest series "Snap" (4 shown in the top left) are available through the Duende Art Project.
Artist talk with howard sherman, march 2015
Duende Art Project and BLUEorange Contemporary invite you to an artist talk with Howard Sherman on Saturday, March 14, 2015 starting at 5:30PM. The artist will discuss his latest body of work in this special pop-up exhibition,"Lurching and cursing in a field of tulips." Howard Sherman will share insights regarding his paintings found in the recently published hardcover art history book, "Texas Abstract:Modern | Contemporary" which also features the artist on the cover.

Lurching and cursing in a field of tulips, february 2015
BLUEorange Contemporary and Duende Art Project invite you to a special pop-up exhibit and book signing with one of Houston's premiere artists, Howard Sherman, on Saturday, February 28th from 5-9 PM. Join us at the gallery as we unveil the latest works from Sherman's studio in an exhibition titled, Lurching and Cursing in a Field of Tulips.
Fresco Books recently published,"Texas Abstract:Modern+Contemporary" with cover artwork by Howard Sherman. An essay about the artist and a photo spread including five additional paintings is also included. "Texas Abstract:Modern+Contemporary" represents an unprecedented attempt to reconcile the historic mid-20th Century abstraction in Texas with the vibrant contemporary art scene flourishing now in the early 21st Century. The book is co-authored by Michael Paglia and Jim Edwards.
In the upcoming exhibition the public will have a chance to view brand new work by the artist and attain the popular new book. Guests are encouraged to arrive early as a limited number of hard cover books will be available for purchase at the opening.
Music to meditation art event, January 2015
Duende Art Project is pleased to partner with our friends at Gray Contemporary and Art of Living to host a music to meditation event with world renowned meditation teacher and Indian flutist, Philp Fraser.
The event will be held at Gray Contemporary on Wednesday, February 18th 6:30 to 8:00pm. Admission is free to the public.
During the event, artwork by Houston-based artists, Lucinda Cobley and Michael Crowder will be on view.

ktown cowboys to premiere at sxsw film festival, december 2014
Our founder, Ken General, had helped fund the making of a film called KTOWN COWBOYS a couple of years ago. We are happy to announce that the film will have its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in the Spring of 2015. Join us in Austin, TX an meet the cast, crew, and fellow film producers. We're getting pretty excited about our show with The Galveston Art Center that's coming up. The artist talk begins at 2pm on Sunday, September 28, 2014, and will be followed with a reception through 4pm. Refreshments and light bites will be served. Blue Orange Contemporary is located at 1208 West Gray St., Houston, TX 77019.
Tae’s work successfully seduces viewers into a dimension where human empathy and introspection merge into one state of consciousness, both calming and unsettling. Through his paintings and drawings of Jungian figures and wispy poetry, Tae authenticates his position on the exquisitely strenuous nature of the human condition and enlightened awareness.
